S.A.S Charlotte Brice

Welcome Travelers.

We have another guest author with us for Saturday Author Spotlight. Charlotte is a prolific writer! 30 books written and more to come! Let’s settle in and get this interview started!

What inspired you to start writing?

I copied out fairy tales to improve my handwriting when I was 13 and got hooked on changing the outcome.

When did you decide that you wanted to publish your first story?

I tried traditional publishing over the years, but didn’t discover self-publishing until 2018

Describe your writing space.

Organised chaos. Notebooks and pens everywhere. The perfect place for my pet dragons to sit and watch me type.

How do you do research for your books?

Research? Hum. Most of the time I make stuff up. Sometimes I ask the hubs, as he is always a good source of useless information that comes in handy during a 1am writing sprint.

What motivates you to keep writing?

I love it. It is my escape from two jobs and three kids.

Writing can be emotionally draining and sometimes stressful- particularly when stepping into the publishing realm of things. Any tips to share for the aspiring writers out there?

Don’t pressure yourself. It’s ok to take a break or change your mind. Most importantly, listen to your characters because they won’t listen to you.

Tell me about the books you write.

I love to write a variety of genre. I love paranormal mystery and have a series of paranormal police detectives. I love romance and plot twists; a good bit of murder always adds to the plot. I’ve recently started writing mm.

How many books have you written so far? Are you in any anthologies? Which book has been your favorite to write? If you have a one that is. 🙂

I have written nearly thirty books in total, from 4k shorts to 95k novels. My absolute favourite was my ShiftArs series. Harlow basically wrote himself and didn’t listen to any of my plot ideas.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? Why are they your favorite? Are they the main character? Tell us about them.

Harlow, as mentioned above, was the most fun to write. The book started in third person and with an FMC, but he refused to be female, and kept writing in first person. It was very interesting and exciting to write something so different to normal, but something that flowed so naturally.

Tell us about your latest writing project

I am writing Times of Broken Past, part of a 14 book collection about women in time. Aevum starts as a normal woman in a dystopian world until she is told she has the power to travel backwards and forwards in time. She is given the task of stopping six demi-gods scattered through the past, but soon finds she is more like them than the people she left behind. The demi-gods tempt her to rethink everything she knows about her past

Let’s get to know a bit more about you. What do you like to do when you are not writing?

I was a vet in my life before children. The out of hours didn’t fit with my three little demons, my daughter is 6 and my twins are 5. Both twins are on the autistic spectrum so my life is a fixed routine. We have a lot of pets, which I love, and helps my son to connect with others. We have two dragons (bearded not fire-breathing) which I’m hoping will breed soon. I also have five geckos, three guinea pigs, millipedes, tortoises and a cockroach colony. I love looking after my pets and kids, and yes, I am the strange lady who walks around wearing a dragon!

If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

crazy wonder woman

If it were possible to have your favorite season all year long what season would it be?

Fall

Why did you choose that particular season?

We call it autumn here. I love the crisp chill in the morning and the colours of the leaves as they change. The rutting of the deer and the pigs in the forest. And dragon’s breath when you breath.

What songs/ music are on your playlist?

I like 2 chellos when I’m typing, but heavy rock music when I’m cleaning or tidying. Need the dust to vibrate itself off the shelves.

What is your favorite food?

Chocolate biscuits

Who is your favorite author and why? (You can definitely choose more than one)

I love Jade Thorn and Leigha Wolffe-Storim, not just for their fantastic books, but for their friendship and support.

What are you reading right now?

Deadly Prelude, but Leigha Wolffe

What is one thing your readers don’t know about you?

My neighbours say I have an amazing singing voice.
